The Brisbane Bloody Long Walk, a charitable event organized to raise funds and awareness for Mito, kicked off on a beautiful morning at Sandgate. The eager walkers assembled at the start line, brimming with enthusiasm and determination for the long journey ahead.

As groups of participants set off, our dedicated team of volunteers made their way to Pit Stop 5, located at the picturesque Newstead House, to play their part in this inspiring event.

Newstead House, a historic gem nestled within a serene park overlooking the Brisbane River, served as the perfect location for our pit stop. The tranquil surroundings and stunning views provided a soothing backdrop for both the walkers and volunteers alike. Positioned strategically along the route, walkers approached Newstead House after crossing the Yowoggera Bridge, continuing their journey along the scenic river walkway that traversed through Teneriffe and New Farm.

Our role as volunteers involved providing crucial support to the walkers as they passed through our pit stop. With enthusiasm and encouraging cheers, we ensured that each participant felt motivated and empowered to keep going. Providing refreshments in the form of water and fruit, we helped replenish their energy levels and quench their thirst, ensuring they remained hydrated and fueled for the long walk ahead. We also tended to any first aid needs and provided directions to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for the participants.

Volunteering for the Brisbane Bloody Long Walk is an extraordinary opportunity to give back to the community and make a difference. Whether you are passionate about supporting causes like Mito or wish to contribute your time and effort to a meaningful event, volunteering allows you to be part of something greater than yourself. Individuals of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to get involved and lend their support, making it a truly inclusive and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

The Mito Foundation, the beneficiary of the Brisbane Bloody Long Walk, is a national organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding for research into mitochondrial disease (Mito). Mito affects the mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cells, impacting individuals of all ages and leading to a range of debilitating symptoms. By volunteering or participating in the Bloody Long Walk, you are directly driving positive change and making a significant contribution towards advancing research, supporting affected individuals and their families, and ultimately finding a cure for this complex disease.

As the day came to a close, the atmosphere at Newstead House was filled with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. The tireless efforts of the walkers and the unwavering support of the volunteers created an atmosphere of unity and shared purpose that will be cherished in our memories. Looking forward to the next year's event, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to reunite with old friends and welcome new faces.

In conclusion, volunteering for the Brisbane Bloody Long Walk is not just a selfless act; it is an opportunity to be part of a supportive and compassionate community. By dedicating your time and energy, you contribute to the success of the event and help the Mito Foundation in its mission to improve the lives of those affected by mitochondrial disease. Whether you choose to volunteer, participate, or simply lend your support, your involvement is invaluable and has the power to create a lasting impact.
