MS Brissie To Bay Bike Ride 2023

2023 MS Brissie to Bay Bike Ride

(Kim Volunteered while I snap some photos)

The 2023 MS Brissie to Bay bike ride was nothing short of exhilarating. Kim volunteered at check point Wynnum foreshore, she had the pleasure of cheering on and supporting the riders as they made their way through the scenic and challenging route.

With the station all set up, she eagerly awaited the arrival of the riders. It was a beautiful day with clear blue skies and a refreshing breeze, perfect for a long bike ride. And soon enough, the first batch of riders appeared on the horizon, pedaling with all their might towards the check point.

As they approached, she greeted them with enthusiastic cheers and Comlink volunteers handed out some much-needed sustenance in the form of buns, bananas, and water. It was heartening to see the riders' faces light up with gratitude and appreciation as they refueled their bodies.

But it wasn't just about the food and drinks, her primary role were to help the riders keep on course. With so many participants on the road, some of them may have lost their way, especially if they are not familiar with the area. So, she made sure to point them in the right direction and keep them motivated throughout their journey.

She also had the opportunity to connect with many riders and hear their inspiring stories about why they chose to participate in this challenging event. Some were doing it to support their loved ones who were living with multiple sclerosis, while others simply wanted to challenge themselves and push their physical limits. Whatever their reasons, it was evident that everyone was committed to making a positive difference in the world.

It was a long and tiring day, but the energy and excitement of the riders kept me going. And when the last rider finally arrived at the check point, exhausted yet triumphant, it was a moment of pure joy and elation.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of the volunteers and organizers who worked behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly. From coordinating water stations to ensuring that the course was safe and well-marked, they deserve a huge round of applause for their dedication and hard work.

Sunshine Coast Bloody Long Walk 2023

Mito - Bloody Long Walk, Sunshine Coast. Australia

Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community. It not only helps in creating an impact but also provides a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment. And if you are a person who loves outdoor activities like walking, running, or cycling, then volunteering at events like the Sunshine Coast Bloody Long Walk can be the perfect way to combine your passion with social work.

Check Out Our Instagram Reel

Today we volunteered at the Mito Sunshine Coast Bloody Long Walk event. It was an event that had participants from various age groups, with different levels of fitness. We were stationed at checkpoint 3 – the Midjimba Surf Club. (We did checkpoint 3 a few years back). The location is perfect for the checkpoint, with a beautiful view of the ocean and coastline.

The event saw a huge turnout, with numerous walkers participating in the event. Our job as volunteers at the checkpoint was to provide the participants with water, fruit, and medic for first aid needs.. The participants were grateful for the supplies, and our team was delighted to help out with their needs.

Apart from distributing supplies, our team also checked the participant's were okay and made sure that they were following the right path. We offered them encouragement and support along the way as they continued on their long walk. It was thrilling to see the determination and enthusiasm of the walkers, who treked through the beautiful terrain, through the towns of Coolum, Maroochydore, Alexandra Headland before ending the journey at Mooloolaba.

Volunteering at the event was an opportunity to combine our passion to make a contribution, and know that your presence means something to someone, even if it's just something small. But it’s much more than that; it’s a chance to meet new people, work with a team, and engage with the community.

Volunteering at the Sunshine Coast Bloody Long Walk was truly a wonderful experience. It also gave us a chance to appreciate the beauty of the Midjimba area, which we love. If you get the opportunity to volunteer at such events, I would highly recommend that you take it. It's a chance to give back to society while growing as an individual and enjoying outdoor activity in beautiful locations.

You never know where it might take you or what adventures await. Though it may seem like a small act, the ripple effect of your actions can be enormous. It's a chance to connect with and assist others, to build meaningful relationships, and to give back to communities that may have given you so much. Volunteering is an enriching and rewarding experience that will stay with you for a lifetime. So go ahead, make a difference in the world, one volunteer project at a time.

The Bloody Long Walk proudly supports people affected by mito through the work of the Mito Foundation.  the Mito Foundation supports people affected by mitochondrial disease (mito), funds essential research into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cures of mitochondrial disorders, and increases awareness and education about this devastating disease.
