Alexandra Headlands To Mooloolba Walk

Alexandra Headlands To Mooloolba Walk, Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Australia

Our walk this morning was a casual 8km Alexandra Headland to Mooloolba Spit. Alexandra Headland has maintained its small town charm, and is only 98 minutes from Brisbane CBD. The Sunshine Coast region is world-renowned for its clean, open beaches. We truly are blessed in South East Queensland with the on-time arrival of perfect weather, azure blue sea, warm waters. Mother Nature has once again smiled upon us. Alexandra Headland, known by the locals as 'Alex', is a coastal town situated on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. The township has a relaxed and laid back atmosphere that complements the soothing rolling surf and inviting beaches. Alexandra Headland is also ringed by Mooloolaba, Buderim and Maroochydore with a superb coastal sweep to the north and bush foothills to the west.

The walk is well lit and populated from 8 am to 8 pm, so safety isn’t a huge concern for the lone walker. We started our trek at Alexandra Headlands and headed off behind the surf club and forward to the pathway adorning carpark. The track then winds over the hill, so you’ll get those glutes activated. The scenic track winds down past the Mooloolaba’s trendy food and coffee precinct which is always buzzing with activity, yummy smells and other locals making the most of the views in their active wear. Mooloolaba is the place where beach holiday dreams come true. Everything you could possibly desire in a beach vacation is right at your fingertips,  beach holiday bliss guaranteed Golden sand, clear waters and a gentle beach break make this stretch of coast one of the best places in Australia to pitch your beach umbrella and get some vitamin sea.

Spend the morning in the water and then stroll up to the Esplanade's vibrant restaurant strip for lunch, or camp out under your umbrella for a relaxing afternoon snooze. Had to stop at the Loo With A View for a couple of photos of the new edition Elton John’s Piano.

We passed Hustle & Flow, underneath the Mooloolaba Surf Club, and despite the early hours, was already open and ready for that first morning caffeine hit. We followed the boardwalk through the sand dune forest with overhanging branches and brush turkeys that Shari (pup) was eyeing off.  The stunning walk continues all the way along to the Spit or the Point and is well utilised by locals and tourists. Why not do the walk early evening and catch the sunset from the Spit - it's a great spot to sit back and enjoy Mooloolaba from a different perspective.

We turned around and started to head back to Alex. Mooloolaba and Alexandra Headlands are always bustling with runners trying to motivate and outdo each other. We passed the Mooloolaba Beach Holiday Park, which is set on 5 acres of beachfront land adjacent to the Mooloolaba Wharf, surf club, shops and eateries. This family holiday heaven provides prime tourist and camping sites right on the best beach on the Sunshine Coast. The holiday park used to be home to Kim’s family over Christmas for 10+ years. The caravan used to be situated on the end street on the right, if you are facing the beach, for 6 weeks over the Christmas Holidays. Unfortunately they have upgraded the area and now there is a street where the caravan used to be parked.

Upon hitting the hill just before Alex there was a paraglider passing over low enjoying the early morning breeze. We grabbed a coffee from the Alex Heads Surf Club to finish off our stroll

From Alex we headed over to Point Cartwright Reserve, and took an easy 3 km stroll on a paved path along the Mooloolah Riverfront, letting Shari have a pleasant swim in the cove on the way to the river mouth, and took the challenging walk up the hill to the lighthouse, where your rewarded by sweeping views up and down the coast. Coastal walks are a morning ritual for locals on the Sunshine Coast
